Island Life in Gili Trawangan, Paradise

You know that picture on the front of every travel guide ever made about Bali, the one on the swing at sunset? Sometimes called the swing at the end of the world. Well that’s in Gili, one of the most popular island in Indonesia. And there’s not just one of these iconic swings, there’s about five or six to choose from.

The point is – to get an insta-worthy photo like that you’re going to need to head to Gili Trawangan island. But that’s not the only reason you should go…

Gili is island paradise. It’s filled with white sands and turquoise sea. If you hire out a boat you can go snorkelling with turtles and bright multi-coloured fish. There are no cars on the island which leaves only one way to get around, by bike.

You can cycle around the whole island in just over an hour, you’ll need to get off and push the bike a couple of times though when you get to some sandy parts without paths.

So what else should you try?

How about stand up paddle boarding. Easily one of the most fun yet relaxing things you can do. Standing up can initially be a bit of a challenge but you’ll soon get the hang of it. And if not you can just chill sitting down and paddling out into the ocean.

Nightlife in Gili is also something that needs to be experienced. Once you’ve danced the night away on the beach you’ll never want to go back to a normal club again. Well until you get sick of the sand that is.

But most importantly, don’t forget to relax. The reason island life is so great is that it involves lying on the beach, sipping cocktails by the ocean and not much else. Relax and forget about everything else you left behind at home, because why worry?
